Parent Governor Vacancy

We currently have 1 vacancy for a Parent Governor. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Claire Jackson - Chair (Co-opted)

It is a pleasure to be part of the governing body for Parkview where both of my children attended. I originally became a parent governor several years ago as I was interested in my children's education. I was born in Whitehaven and grew up in Millom. After leaving school I attended West Cumbria College and then moved away to Coventry for 10 years. For the most part of living in Coventry I worked for the Chamber of Commerce and subsequently with funding for post 16 education. It was there where I developed an understanding of learning and how it can impact on people's lives. I now work part-time as a medical secretary at the local doctors where I have been for the past 6 years.

Karen Hughes - Vice Chair (co-opted Governor)

I have been a governor at Parkview since 2012. I am a registered nurse. I have knowledge and experience of the health and social care systems and I am the safeguarding governor for the nursery. My daughter went to nursery and loved every minute of it. I enjoy being a governor of the nursery and feel the nursery provides a solid foundation for education and well-being for all the children that attend.

Stephen Evans - Parent Governor

Dave Gabbert - co-opted Governor

Sheila Barrett - Staff Governor

'I am the key worker for red group in both the morning and the afternoon as I work full time. I have taught at Parkview Nursery for 5 years and really value the support and respect offered by the parents and the local community. Previously I taught in London, where I really enjoyed going to the theatre. I also lived and taught in a country in Africa called Mozambique, where I had many fantastic holidays seeing wild animals such as lions and gorillas! I have also taught in Cumbrian villages such as Seascale and Egremont enjoying playing Squash as my hobby. As a Teacher I have taught classes of children across the age ranges from 3 to 8. I have also run my own successful childminding business catering for children from 3 months old, employing assistants as it flourished. I have accepted a variety of responsibilities over my teaching career and currently work as the SENCO at Parkview.'

Geraldine Lancaster - LA Governor

As a local mother and grandmother, I have experience of child development and the importance of nursery education, one of the reasons I became a long standing governor of Parkview nursery. My professional life has been in the health service. I have worked as a district nurse for many years, then as manager of Millom hospital and the community nursing services. This involved the health and wellbeing, not only for our children but also for all members of our community. In retirement I am a volunteer with local groups which I find very rewarding. The bonus of retirement for me is that I spend time with my family and grandchildren, who keep me young and active. As with all parents and grandparents I am very proud of all their achievements.

Sheila Cloudsdale - co-opted Governor

After being a parent and a one time employee at Parkview, I'm now pleased to join the governing body. I've spent the last (almost!) 30 years of my career as an Early Years practitioner at St James' Primary in Millom and I'm very passionate about this vital, and in my opinion, most important part of a child's learning journey. I'm really interested in everything local, we have a thriving, close community in Millom and I'm very proud to be a part of it.

Sharon Platt - co-opted Governor

Kathryn Usher - Co-opted Governor

I have worked as a primary school teacher for 12 years and previous to this, I worked in different schools and nursery settings as a teaching assistant. I love the warm and welcoming environment Parkview offers and I am thrilled to be part of the governing body. Both of my children attended the nursery setting and I couldn't have wished for a more positive and fun filled experience for them both. Wanting to give something back to the nursery, I decided to become a governor so I could support in any way I can.

The Head Teacher is also on the governing body.
